This record is deliberately short. A context layer does not owe a reader a reconstruction-and-uncertainty section, because it makes no historical claim to be uncertain about. What it owes is its source, its licence, and a plain warning about what it is doing on a historical map.

How to read this layer

As a grid, and nothing else. Every line here postdates almost everything else on this atlas. Switching it on over Roman Dacia, the stato da màr or the Hanseatic corridors produces a picture in which modern states appear to have been present at events that preceded them by centuries, and the resemblance is the reader’s own eye supplying continuity that the evidence does not.

The layer is machine-classified as context for this reason. The registry schema refuses to let a context layer claim a historical category at all, so these lines cannot be filed as territorial evidence even by accident.
